Community Centered Learning
Our SAT prep community is just that— a community.
The issue with most test prep companies (and you’ll hear this from students too) is the disconnect not only between the tutors and students, but also between the students themselves. Most high school students will be quick to say the best part of high school is the friendships and connections they form with other students. So why has this emphasis on inter-student connection been all but neglected in test prep?
The traditional format of test prep services is everything bad about high school— sitting in rows, long tutoring sessions, uniform instruction for all students despite clear differences in student strengths and weaknesses, minimal chances to get to know fellow students etc.
The Student Society is different. Our entire virtual classroom closely resembles a social media website, allowing students to communicate directly with each other, make posts, like and comment on other students’ posts, and participate in friendly academic competitions.
Additionally, the small-scale of the group tutoring sessions allows for dynamic interactions between tutors and students. Students look forward to seeing their fellow students and tutors on the tutoring calls.
Our most frequent feedback from our students is how much they enjoy the social aspect of our community. The benefits of the community-centered instruction are twofold. Not only do the students enjoy the instruction more, but we also see a noticeable increase in their test performance as a result. It makes sense, though— when student’s enjoy learning, they are much more likely to choose to study.
